THE AVIATOR
Cut from our rich Saddle Walnut hide, the Lot. 527 takes its pattern from an original late-1930s cross-zip, retaining the distinctive proportions and character of the period. The short, sharply cut body and diagonal front are balanced by an elaborate multi-panelled back, centred around a functional gusset designed to allow greater freedom of movement through the shoulders. With its combination of intricate construction, strong period detailing and deep brown leather, the Lot. 527 captures the more expressive side of pre-war civilian motorcycle and sporting jackets.
HIDE
Our Saddle Walnut is a Tuscan vegetable-re-tanned Steerhide, first processed for strength and suppleness, then drum re-tanned with chestnut and quebracho vegetable tannins to build body, depth and character. At 1.5mm / 3.5oz, it’s a substantial mid-weight hide with a rich walnut tone, designed to burnish, deepen and develop a beautiful patina with wear.
hardware
Our Conmar slide fasteners are imported from the USA and finished in warm solid brass, chosen for their weight, mechanical simplicity and unmistakably historic character. The brass will naturally dull and darken with wear, developing a patina alongside the leather.
Finished with buffalo horn buttons, each naturally varied in tone and grain, giving every jacket its own subtle character.
lining
Our salt & pepper herringbone wool is woven at a traditional Yorkshire mill, chosen for its warmth, durability and beautifully textured handle. The subtle herringbone weave and flecked yarn give it the character of vintage American workwear, while remaining soft and comfortable against the body.
